Our story began with one individual. With deep love for traditional, gourmet methods of roasting and brewing; a love that was shared with local Ottawa residents by roasting and selling specialty coffees on demand to a few loyal customers.
With the help of our present-day owner, Henry Assad, they created the Happy Goat Coffee Co. brand as we know it today.
At Happy Goat, we believe that great coffee starts at the source. That’s why we directly source our beans from dedicated farmers across the globe, building lasting relationships rooted in trust, transparency, and mutual respect.
Every bean we serve is locally roasted to perfection right here in Ottawa. Our roasting process is a blend of art and science, ensuring that each batch highlights the unique flavors and aromas of the carefully sourced beans.
Our Master Roaster
Throughout our growth, we’ve relied on one exceptional individual: Dr. Hans Langenbahn, our master roaster. His fascination with coffee and scientific expertise from seed to cup is unmatched.
With a background in Anthropology, his field research in Sudan and Ethiopia introduced him to the intricate processes and standards needed to create exceptional coffee. To this day, Hans regularly returns to Addis Ababa to collaborate with and support our partnered farmers and suppliers.
